Sport Horse Performance Care
Maintain your equine athlete at peak performance
From years of managing and grooming 5* athletes, I understand the unique demands on the body of a sport horse. Like any athlete, rigorous training and competition schedules can result in body soreness and tight muscles. If not managed correctly, this can lead to poor performance and injury. My sport horse maintenance sessions begin with a thorough evaluation to identify which areas of the body need the most help. Base sessions include cold laser, PEMF, massage and myofascial techniques, joint mobilizations, kinesiology taping, fascia cupping/scraping, stretching, heat therapy, red/blue light, and Rapid Release Technology to target and eliminate tension and soreness. Consistent sessions lead to improved performance and reduced rates of injury.
Maintenance sessions are ideal for horses who:
Are in demanding training/competition
Are prone to body soreness
Need help managing joint pain or arthritis
Have previous injuries
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Different horses respond differently to the demands of showing and training. Some horses do well with monthly sessions, while others feel best when receiving weekly sessions.
-
Your horse should be groomed and ready on the cross ties. Please have someone available to jog/lunge/ride the horse, so I can assess their movement.
If you would like to ride on the day of the appointment, I prefer this to be done prior to the session. Most horses benefit from having the rest of the day off following treatment.
-
General physiotherapy sessions may include soft tissue and joint mobilizations, massage, myofascial release, 3b laser, PEMF, heat therapy, red/blue light, Rapid Release Technology, cupping, fascia scraping, and/or kinesiology taping. Recommendations for stretches, ground work, or ridden exercises are also included.
-
I don’t follow a massage routine or specific treatment protocol.
Instead, I will check the entire body to find the areas your horse needs the most help on that day. Each session is specific in terms of areas and modalities in order to most effectively target sore or restricted areas.
-
I work individually with each rider to make a plan that works best for their horse. Some horses benefit from treatments immediately before or after competition, while others feel best with a few days in between.
As an FEI Permitted Equine Therapist, I am able to treat horses throughout competition.
-
Horses at any level of competition or training can benefit. Horses who seem stiff or sore after competition can especially benefit. Physio can help in the management of previous injuries and chronic conditions such as kissing spines, arthritis, back or neck pain.
